The Way to Go: Philosophy in Martial Arts Practice.
“Currently, the physical techniques have been transmitted fairly successfully from Eastern to Western culture. But the cultural and philosophical side has not transferred as well. Why should not your spiritual training be as rigorous as your physical training in the martial arts? This book shows you how that can be…”

The Way to Go: Philosophy in Martial Arts Practice.
"This book has a deceptive and ambiguous title. Deliberately. It is an untimely book. Yet it offers a clear, unequivocal path, a way out of some of the problems and inadequacies of the present. In that sense it is timely.
Let us explain. In this book we present current issues in the philosophy and methodology of the Eastern martial arts, especially as they have come to develop in the West. Thus, we do not offer here much practical advice on technique or physical exercise. Rather our concern lies with practical and moral issues of contemporary martial arts practice.
We have already developed much of the theoretical basis for our approach in our other book, Martial Meditation. Here we present and amplify those aspects of it that are relevant to more applied, current concerns. Those who required a more extensive theoretical basis may refer to the other book (Daeshik Kim, Allen Back. Martial Meditation. Philosophy and the Essence of the Martial Arts).
Here we focus on issues facing the current martial artist and educator. Which techniques to teach and which to modify or abandon? How can a martial art remain traditional? What should be the goals of martial arts training? Which should be precedence? What priority should be goals of martial arts training have in your life? How can all people be treated equally in the martial arts? What moral and professional standards should martial artist hold? What should the martial arts become? In this book, you will find answers to these and many other related questions."
